For so many people, having a beautiful home is important. If you enjoy having people over to socialise then a functional, beautiful home is going to be a big part of that. Here are some tips for drawing people in with your décor.
Lots of light
Light is so important for making your home look welcoming. Where possible, allow as much natural light in as you can. You can enhance the natural light in your home with mirrors, light colours and curtains that don’t cover too much of your windows.
If you struggle with natural light, brighten those dark corners with lamps and other artificial light.
The use of colour in the home can really make a space feel welcoming. Monochrome schemes, while beautiful, can look very clinical and uninviting. Change this by adding a bit of colour into your home. You might do this with cushions, brightly coloured contemporary furniture for the home or with the colour of your walls.
A sofa piled high with cushions that are just asking to be sunk into will draw people into your living room. The cushions don’t all have to be the same. Experiment with different colours and prints.
The same goes for fluffy throws, lots of places to sit and blankets to snuggle under.
Create talking points within your home
A talking point could be anything that interests you. From a framed poster of your favourite band, to a really unusual piece of furniture. Every room in your house should have something interesting in it. This means that when you throw parties, people will instantly have something to talk about.
You might enjoy explaining where interesting items have come from or you might want items that people will enjoy discussing. These items don’t have to cost a lot of money. If you want to create a talking point but are on a budget, a wall sticker with an inspirational quote could be all you need.
Add some warmth
Make sure your home is the correct temperature for the weather. Even if you usually just pile on the jumpers when it gets chilly, guests might not want to do that. If you feel the need for a jumper when you’re throwing a party, you might want to put the heating on.
There’s a reason why people gather around heat storage cookers like an AGA during parties. The warmth is comforting and just seems to draw people in.
There are certain items that will just bring people into your home. This might be a hot tub, fire pit, outdoor pizza oven or a 3D TV. Perhaps it’s a little shallow to visit someone’s home just for those reasons but people still do.
The trick is the draw people in with a party centred around one (or more!) of those items. From there you can play the perfect host and keep them coming back for your fantastic gatherings and parties.
