Top Tips For A Perfect Skiing Holiday For Novices

Skiing on the Gernkogel
Now is the time to go on a skiing holiday. The weather is perfect, and it is just far enough after Christmas to warrant a vacation. The only thing is, you can’t ski! Don’t worry, though, because a lot of people that go on skiing holidays cannot ski. Then, when the vacation is over, they go from novices to intermediates, and some even go to pro level.

Still, before any beginner goes on a skiing trip, there are a few things they need to be aware of first. Let’s face it, you don’t want to discover them flying down a mountain at fifty miles an hour!

Get Professional Lessons

Every beginner that goes skiing thinks getting lessons from a family member is a good idea. It isn’t. Basically, family members are not professional skiers, and you won’t learn any pearls of wisdom. Professionals, on the other hand, are top class skiers as well as great teachers. The best way to learn to ski quickly is to take your time, focus and ask the experts for tips and advice.

Rent, Don’t Buy

Skiing equipment is obviously essential to your trip, but it is also very expensive. So, what are your options? Firstly, you could invest in a lot of good equipment that you can take on your trip, or you can rent it when you get to the resort. The best option for a beginner is to rent and not buy. Why? You should rent because you don’t know whether you are going to continue with skiing, or whether it is a one-time holiday. The last thing you want to do is spend hundreds of dollars on equipment only to use it once.

Buy Quality If You Don’t Want To Rent

Okay, you may be sure that you are going to go back to the slopes year after year, so you are going to buy instead of rent. In this case, you need to make sure that you invest in quality and substance over style. Quality skis and skiing gear is more expensive, but it is a one-time buy. For example, Connelly skis and equipment will last for a very long time, so it will save you money in the long run. The cheaper gear is not as well manufactured and will break more easily.

Book A Hotel

There will be lots of people telling you to book self-catering accommodation, but don’t listen. For them, it is a good choice because they are skiers who know what to expect when they go on a skiing vacation. You, in contrast, don’t have a clue what to expect, so it is a good idea to make your trip as simple as possible. Having to cook your meals may not sound too stressful, but it is an unwanted inconvenience after a hard day on the slopes.

You don’t have to be a complete novice before you go on vacation because you can practice on artificial slopes and ski centers. Although they are not the same thing, they are a decent replica.

Just a couple of tryouts will prepare you for life on the slopes.
